The League: Great Scene From First Episode
November 11, 2009 by kenlovestvCougar Town: Tonight, Nov 11
November 11, 2009 by kenlovestvI urge all my flowers to watch Cougar Town. Yes Courtney Cox is drop dead beautiful. The show is well written and there are two stand out characters. Courtney’s ex husband, played by Brian Van Holt. A washed up golf pro living on a boat, in a parking lot. He shows you can still be a slacker at 40, but at least he is aware of his mistakes.
Ian Gomez (you know him as Nia Vardalos’ husband) plays the best henpecked husband we have scene in many years. The fact his wife is so shitty to him prompts his not wanting much. However I cant quite call him a loveable loser.
This link gives you a good overview of what I am talking about.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: November 8
November 9, 2009 by kenlovestvOK Larry..Sorry to say; you are starting to lose it and starting to lose me.
I use to love the show for its commentary on all the crap that annoys us that comes up socially. Some of the situations you played out on the show where perfect on right on. These are some of my favorites. (If anyone wants any more detail on these shows, drop me a note)
1) Having to take a tour of someone’s house….could not agree more, who cares?
2) Using your mother’s death as an excuse to get out of social commitments…although it’s tragic when we lose a loved one, we have all played that card when convenient for us to get out of something. Anyone who says they haven’t is probably lying.
3) The frustration of having to get a gift wrapped. Why aren’t the scissors and the tape all in the same place?
4) Kissing everyone hello…It is a pain in the ass
This week, the bit with the kids lemonade stand? Larry David may be a prick but getting into a beef with kids at lemonade stand is a bit out the scope of what Larry is all about. We all see ourselves in Larry and applaud that he is able to bodily handle the circumstances that frustrate us. I don’t think getting into a fight with a bunch of 10 year olds at a lemonade stand is what we would do.
The taking of the pants? Walking around with the security tags? Not sure about that one. But I did like to retort to the store clerk when discussing the sign that claims the store is not responsible for last articles.
There is always more, but this is what struck me now.
That’s all for now.
Hope to hear your comments.

Mad Men: November: 11/8
November 9, 2009 by kenlovestvThis episode was pretty remarkable. The show touched on all aspects that we love in the story line; The Sterling Cooper agency, Don & Betty’s marriage, the falling out between Roger and Don and the return of Joan.
As I write these blog entries, I contemplate if I want to give away to much of the plot. I’m writing this on Monday morning. I, like most of you don’t watch shows on their airing time…God Bless DVR & TIvo. So for those of you who liked to be surprised when you watch…sorry.
This week’s episode is a great example of why we love Mad Men. Crumbling marriages, reflecting on shitty times in our youth, career uncertainties and when we learn how people really feel about us (AKA Don learned a lot)
Peggy certainly gave it to him as he tried to recruit her for the formation of the new agency. She told Don she’s fed up with how he sees her. Don comes to a realization that she is of value and can’t take her for granted. It was great when Pete said to Don and Roger (as they tried to recruit him) I want to hear why Don thinks I’m special. Jon Hamm did a great job in projecting Don as being uncomfortable (and confident) to praise anyone else’s work or position in his life.
I would have expected a little more in the scene when Don confronted Betty about her boyfriend. I guess the scene in the Soprano’s when Carmella tossed Tony out of the house has, in my mind, established the standard to catch on film when a husband and wife have a monumental blow up and severe actions are taken. January Jones did a great job of projecting an intamdated wife, while trying to defend her position and stand up to her husband. (Keep in mind January Jones hosts SNL this coming week.)
That’s all for now.

Saturday Night Live: Taylor Swift
November 8, 2009 by kenlovestvDid you see, Saturday Night Live last night? I was a bit apprehensive about watching. Host and musical guest Taylor Swift? Not exactly what I thought wanted to watch.
Wow, was she good. A very talented kid. She can do comedy. She did a great skit with Keenan Thompson where she played a convict trying to “scare straight” three teenagers that got into a some mischief. Congrats Taylor…you’ve won over this guy.
Amy Poehler made a return to Weekend Update. She and Seth Meyers resurrected their “Really, With Seth & Amy” commentary. To me it seemed a bit rushed. The topic was on Goldman Sachs getting H1N1 shots before some public schools in NY. Commentary was good, some points may go over your head if you are not up to speed on the H1N1 situation. Oh well, it was good to see her. I am losing faith in Parks and Recreation. We will keep trying.
Next week on SNL, January Jones from Mad Men is the host. Don’t forget Mad Men is on tonight (Sunday @ 10:00 east coast time on AMC). She might be the most beautiful on TV right now. Lover her as Betty Draper. We will chime on Mad Men later.

New Great Show on FX….The League
November 6, 2009 by kenlovestvHas everyone seen this yet? Two episodes into the season. Great lead in from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.
“The League” has a great ensemble cast with outstanding writing that makes you laugh. Premise of the show is 5 guys, all 30 somethings in a fantasy football league. The name of their league is called; “The League”. The obsession with football is only rivaled to bust each other’s balls the way all male friends do. (AKA, these are a bunch of “guys-guys”. If want an explanation of that feel free to contact me at kenlovestv@gmx.com)
This show is not just for guys. The ladies can enjoy it as well because of the comical dynamic between a few of the guys in the league and their spouses. Kevin secretly lets his wife run his team. Ruxton, a new father is sex starved due to his wife’s unwillingness to have sex. Kevin is about to go thru a divorce. Taco (yes that’s his name) is slacker / stoner that can pick up chicks with the best of them. To date the only character traits we can see of Andre, a very succesful single plastic surgeon is that he is the but of the jokes by the gang and struggles to be that kid that wants to fit in. We are lead to think, so far, he has very little luck with woman.
